Welcome to Chalet Holidays in Les Gets

Les Gets ski resort is a charming French village based high in the mountains close to the French-Swiss border. This 800yr old village has character throughout, and is a great choice for those looking for that picture-book snowy alpine village. Gentle and relaxed, skiing Les Gets is very popular with groups & families and caters very well for mixed ability groups. There’s an excellent range of catered chalets in and around Les Gets.

Les Gets village itself is made of wood and stone buildings, mostly chalets and small hotels, in keeping with is past. They’ve worked very hard here to maintain it’s charm and that’s a real draw. It’s a mid-sized resort, with great facilities especially for families. There’s a good range of bars and cafes, and some great restaurants, but it’s certainly not a big party town. If more lively après-ski is your thing then maybe a Chalet Holiday in Morzine might be worth looking at instead.

It’s 1 hours drive from Geneva airport, so great for long weekend ski holidays and popular with those with younger families too.

Family Chalet Holidays in Les Gets

Les Gets is a great choice for Family Ski Holidays. The Family Chalet Holidays market is a big thing in Les Gets, and they try very hard to make sure all the facilities are first class for ski holidays with children. Firstly the ski schools are excellent and well set up for children's lessons. There's a good range of ski schools to pick between and each offer a large range of ski lessons for children. There's the kids club, which is run in conjuction with ESF (the largest ski school) and they work together to provide a wonderful facility for children. For example children can have morning ski lessons, lunch, then afternoons in the kids club, and all the taking back and forth is taken care of for you, leaving you free to enjoy the whole day away skiing.

For younger ones there's the local nursery and companies offering nannies who come to your chalet to look after the children.

Also the location is a big factor for families, especially those with younger children, and it's only a 1hr transfer from Geneva airport to Les Gets.

Skiing Les Gets

Skiing Les Gets means you are skiing the Portes du Soleil, which is the name for the collective ski area of the 14 interlinked resorts. This includes such ski resorts as Morzine, Chatel, Avoriaz, St Jean d’Aulps, Les Crosets, Champousin & Champery, with the ski area crossing the French-Swiss border. With such a large ski area connected to Les Gets, there’s great skiing for all abilities and tastes. From high altitude open bowl skiing to the winding wooded pistes, a Les Gets Chalet Holidays can provide it all.

Independent chalets currently has four wounderful chalets in Les Gets:

  • Chalet La Ravine - a mid range catered chalet sleeping up to 16 people
  • Chalet Perdu - If you are after luxury & an incredible location then chalet perdu is for you! Sleeps 10 to 12 people in 5 or 6 bedrooms
  • The Mazot - In the grounds of chalet Perdu is something very unique; a Luxury Cabin just for two! The ultimate luxury romantic get-away.
  • Chalet Les Castors - A Ski in / Ski out self catered chalet in Les Gets - sleeps 10 in 5 bedrooms

Les Gets Lift Passes

There are two options for liftpasses for a chalet holiday in Les Gets:

Option 1: Local Area Pass

The "local area" is the combined ski area of Les Gets and Morzine - 120kms of Pistes, 50 lifts. We'd recommend this for beginners and lower intermediates - those on greens and blues only. If you are thinking about the odd easy red, then maybe you should also consider the full area pass

Option 2: The Full Area Pass

The full area is call the Portes du Soleil - 650kms of pistes, 208 ski lifts, the largest ski area in Europe! There's a main circuit of blues and reds, and if you are happy on an easy red then it could well be worth getting the full area pass so you can explore this wonderful area.

Les Gets Ski resort is a wonderful place to learn to ski & snowboard. There's a great range of ski schools in Les Gets, which especially good facilities for children's ski lessons. The slopes & facilities are ideal for learning, with a good range of beginner, intermediate & lower advanced slopes. For expert & off-piste you might need to venture into other areas of the Portes du Soleil, but that's a short ski away. Below we've talked about the 8 main ski schools in Les Gets, though there are a few other small independent ski instructors as well.

Your first Choice is British Ski School or French Ski School. The British Ski Schools are generally higher quality, smaller classes, more focused on private lessons, and more expensive. The French ski schools are, as a rule of thumb, cheaper, with larger groups and more options for group lessons. Also the French ski schools are by far the largest for children's lessons, with the largest age ranges and largest numbers of classes, but again with larger group sizes too.

ESF Les Gets

Ecole du Ski Francais are the largest ski school in France, as well as being the largest in Les Gets. They have by far the largest number of group lessons, especially with Children's lessons. They are good value and are happy to give private lessons as well, though in holidays the times can be limited.

Group Ski Lessons: 6 x half day lessons are 120 Euros for children, and 139 Euros for adults. Private Ski lessons: 38 - 45 Euros per hour depending on timing. The prices do vary a bit for certain lesson types, but that should give you a good guide.
ESF Les Gets

Ecole du Ski 360

Ecole du Ski 360 are ESF's main rivals in Les Gets. They are a smaller, slightly more personal ski school. They do however have less options for ski lessons & times. Their children's lessons have a good reputation.

Prices for 6 x half day lessons range from 100 - 135 Euros (depending on time of year & lesson length) and private lessons are 40 - 45 Euros per hour.
Ecole du Ski 360 Les Gets

Ski Plus Les Gets

Ski Plus are a small French Ski School that provide private Ski lessons only. They've a good name for these & charge around 50 Euros per hour. They do not have a website but they base themselves in Berthet Sports (you'll find that where the main ski slopes meet Les Gets Village) or you can call them on 0033 (0) 6 76 47 19 45

In short, the british ski schools are higher quality, more focused on small groups and private lessons, and are more expensive.

Les Gets Snowsports

Tim and his team at Les Gets Snowsports provide top class instruction for all levels. If you are looking for the best in private tuition, you'll do well to beat lessons with Les Gets Snowsports. They also have small group lessons for children & teenagers with their Junior Freeriders ski lessons.

200 Euros for 5 x 2 hr lessons for their Junior Freeriders courses Private lessons - price depends on the number of people, it starts at 74 euros / hr for one person, then it's an additional 10 euros / hr / additional person in the group.
Les Gets Snowsports

Alpine Learning Curves

Joe Beer & his team will be looking after you at Alpine Learning Curves. A small, friendly ski school that off skiing, telemarking & snowboarding lessons. They mostly do private lessons, but are now also offering their weekend & Wednesday workshops. This is the perfect answer for someone that wants a quick tune-up without having the expense of a private lesson. Their workshops are a 3 hr session on Saturday & Wednesday afternoon and include video feedback.

Workshops from 40 Euros per person. Private lessons are 65 Euros / hr for one person, and hourly rate increases when there are more people.

The Edge Snowsports

The Edge Snowsports offer private ski lessons in Les Gets & Morzine. We hear lots of great things about them, Pete has done a lot of lessons for us in the past always to great reviews.

Private lessons are £55 per hour for one person, and an extra £10 per person for additional people in the group for the ski lessons.

British Alpine Ski School

BASS are the largest British ski school in the French Alps covering many different resorts, including Les Gets. They offer both group and private lessons from British instructors, with smaller group sizes. They are the only British ski school offering group lessons for adults.

Adults Group ski lessons - 8 hr courses are £149 Children Group ski Lessons - 10 hr course (5 x 2 hrs) £175 Private ski Lessons - £70/hr for one person, £10 per additional person.
BASS Les Gets

The Snow Institute Morzine

The Snow Institute (TSI) offers quality British Instruction based in Morzine & Les Gets. They offer private lessons & group lessons, for both children and adults. The group lessons run at all levels, though they do rely on getting enough numbers together so sometimes the times do vary because of this.

Private lessons are £55/hr for 1 person, then an extra £8/hr per extra person. Group lessons - 5 x 2hr lesson wouth be £150, though there are lots of other lesson timings available too.
The Snow Institute Morzine

Mint Snowboarding School

The only purely snowboarding school, Mint Snowboard School offer private & group lessons aimed at fun & progression. Group lessons come in 7 different levels making it easy for you to join the right group. If I had to describe my impression of Mint Snowboarding it would be fun & enthusiasm.

2 hr private lessons are 135 Euros for 1 person, and an additional 15 euro per person per hour for extra people. Group lessons - 5 x 2hr lessons would be 215 Euros, other options are available too.
