Welcome to Morzine Ski Resort

Morzine is the largest ski resort in the giant ski area known as the Portes du Soleil. At 650kms of pistes, making it the largest ski area in Europe, Skiing Morzine is something we’d recommend to be on the to do list for any keen skier or snowboarder. 14 resorts are interconnected to make up the Portes du Soleil, including Morzine, Les Gets, Avoriaz, Chatel, Les Crosets, Champery, Torgins and St Jean d’Aulps. This giant ski area straddles the French Swiss border.

With such a large ski area, it is as close as you could get to being all things to all people. Avoriaz is the centre for the young and daring – 5 different snow parks, international pro tours, burton sponsored “the Stash” (a forest park). Avoriaz and Super Chatel provide your high altitude open bowl skiing. For powder hunters then this is the part to head for, plus those looking for wide open pistes with the reliability of above-the-tree-line altitude skiing (Avoriaz village is at 1800m.) The you’ve go parts like Les Gets, gentle blues and easy reds, winding through the forests with a great modern lift system, it’s an intermediate’s paradise. A Catered Chalet Holiday in Morzine is definitely worth considering if you’ve a group of mixed abilities and tastes, as an area this size has such a huge range of skiing for everyone.

Morzine Village

Morzine Ski Resort itself is a chalet based ski resort. It’s traditional wood and stone construction is in keeping with is past, and it has charm and feeling unlike many ski resorts. It is a large ski resort with over 100 different chalet companies offering catered chalets in Morzine at the last count, so there’s a great range for all budgets and tastes. It also has a lively centre for those looking to soak up some après-ski as well.

Catered Chalets in Morzine

Independent Chalets currently has two chalets in the Morzine area. These are perfectly located close to the Prodains Cable car up to Avoraiz, making the ideal access for the full Portes du Soleil Ski area.

These two chalets are adjoining and can been booked together to sleep up to 16 guests.

Les Gets is close by and shares the same ski area, and we have more Catered Chalets in Les Gets for you as well.

Getting to Morzine

Morzine is a very convenient ski resort for UK based skiers, being about 1hr 15 mins drive from Geneva airport. Being so close there are constantly transfers going up and down the mountain meaning it’s very easy to co-ordinate your flight times with your transfers. It would make an ideal base for any group who have a variety of flight times and also for those with younger families or on short breaks who are keen for a short transfer

Morzine Lift Passes

There are two options for liftpasses for a chalet holiday in Les Gets:

Option 1: Local Area Pass

The "local area" is the combined ski area of Morzine and Les Gets - 120kms of Pistes, 50 lifts. We'd recommend this for beginners and lower intermediates - those on greens and blues only. If you are thinking about the odd easy red, then maybe you should also consider the full area pass

Option 2: The Full Area Pass

The full area is call the Portes du Soleil - 650kms of pistes, 208 ski lifts, the largest ski area in Europe! There's a main circuit of blues and reds, and if you are happy on an easy red then it could well be worth getting the full area pass so you can explore this wonderful area.

Morzine Ski resort is situated between the more gentle Les Gets & Morzine ski area (one side of the valley), and the more varied and challenging Avoriaz ski area (the other side of the valley). Between these two you'll always find the perfect conditions for your ski & snowboard lessons no matter what your level. There's many different ski schools to pick between depending on what you are looking for. Group lessons, privates, ski, snowboard, telemark, children's, adults... that's one advantage of being in a large ski resort, there's a good range to pick between. Below is an introduction to some of the different ski schools in Morzine, but a good chat about such things can really help so once you've picked your chalet then just get in touch & we can help with any questions.

ESF Morzine

Ecole du Ski Francais are the largest ski school in France, as well as being the largest in Morzine with 150 instructors so the claim! They have by far the largest number of group lessons, especially with Children's lessons. They are good value and do private lessons as well, though times available for private lessons can be limited.
Ski Lesson Prices
6 x half day lessons you are looking at 120 Euros for children and 139 Euros for adults Private lessons are 38 - 45 Euros per hour depending on timing. The prices do vary a bit for certain lesson types, but that should give you a good guide.
ESF Morzine

Easy 2 Ride Ski & Snowboard Academy

Easy 2 Ride are a small & flexible International Ski School and make a good alternative to ESF with their smaller group sizes in group ski lessons. They have a large range of group lessons, children & adults, beginners to advanced, ski & snowboard lessons. They also offer private lessons.

Easy2Ride offer five and six day group courses (prices are the same for adults and children.

6 x 2.5 hour lessons from 180€ to 270€
5 x 2.5 hour lessons from 170€ to 250€

Private lessons:
From 55€ to 75€ per hour (highly recommend lessons for a minimum two hours)

The Snow Institute Morzine

The Snow Institute (TSI) offers quality British Instruction based in Morzine & Les Gets. They offer private lessons & group lessons, for both children and adults. The group lessons run at all levels, though they do rely on getting enough numbers together so sometimes the times do vary because of this.
Ski Lesson Prices
Private lessons are £55/hr for 1 person, then an extra £8/hr per extra person. Group lessons - 5 x 2hr lesson wouth be £150, though there are lots of other lesson timings available too.
The Snow Institute Morzine

The Edge Snowsports

The Edge Snowsports are an excellent ski school offering private ski lessons in Morzine for small groups and individuals. We hear lots of great things about them, Pete has done a lot of lessons for us in the past always to great reviews.

Private lessons are £55 per hour for one person, and an extra £10 per person for additional people in the group for the ski lessons.
The Edge Snowsports Morzine

British Alpine Ski School

BASS are the largest British ski school in the French Alps covering many different resorts, including Morzine. They offer both group and private lessons from British instructors, with smaller group sizes. They are the only British ski school offering group lessons for adults.

Adults Group ski lessons - 8 hr courses are £149 Children Group ski Lessons - 10 hr course (5 x 2 hrs) £175 Private ski Lessons - £70/hr for one person, £10 per additional person.
BASS Morzine

Mint Snowboarding School

The only purely snowboarding school, Mint Snowboard School offer private & group lessons aimed at fun & progression. Group lessons come in 7 different levels making it easy for you to join the right group. The operate through Morzine, Les Gets & Avoriaz giving them a huge range of terrain to match your level.
Snowboard Lesson Prices
2 hr private lessons are 135 Euros for 1 person, and an additional 15 euro per person per hour for extra people. Group lessons - 5 x 2hr lessons would be 215 Euros, other options are available too.
Mint Snowboarding School Morzine

The Snow School Morzine

The Snow School Morzine are a small ski school offering private & small group lessons. Their group lessons have 4 to 6 pupils and are offered for snowboarding & skiing, for both children & adults. Their group lessons are mostly focused around beginner skiers & beginner snowboarders.

Adult Group ski lessons - 5 half day lessons are 209 Euros Children's Group ski lessons - 5 half day lessons are 199 Euros Private Lessons are 55 Euros to 65 Euros per hour depending on the time of year.

LGS Ski School

Tim and his team teach in Morzine as well as Les Gets & provide top class instruction for all levels. If you are looking for the best in private tuition, you'll do well to beat lessons with LGS. They also have small group lessons for children & teenagers with their Junior Freeriders ski lessons.

200 Euros for 5 x 2 hr lessons for their Junior Freeriders courses Private lessons - price depends on the number of people, it starts at 74 euros / hr for one person, then it's an additional 10 euros / hr / additional person in the group.
